everything we make is designed around YOU
We are not a mass-market furnishing company - there are plenty of those already (who happen to be good at it). We are a bespoke design + build studio that lets YOU choose key design elements of our furnishings (currently pictures and coffee tables) so that YOU can create a truly unique and beautiful interior environment that reflects who YOU are.
Our level of customisation options range from choosing your favourite picture, size and accompanying text that adorns your picture (either a CanvasPic or AcoustiPic), through to choosing the colour of castors and bumper, drawer storage options and shot-blasted motif that adorns your MoVE coffee table.
Our products are built to last - together we can change the disposable world we live in.
a little bit about us
Founded in 2020 by Ian Goldsmith, we are a design + build studio based in the Cotswolds. Having spent ~30 years in the Fintech industry, Ian became increasingly frustrated with the lack of opportunity to utilise his creative skills (PowerPoint slides only go so far).
Needing a coffee table for his own home, Ian scoured the market for one that was contemporary looking, had storage, and that could easily be moved. He couldn’t find one, and so he set about designing his own. Ian enlisted the help of his friend Nigel Hewson, a carpenter who helped him build a prototype table (which adorns his lounge to this day). Guests often commented favourably on the coffee table and asked where they could buy it. Lightbulb moment…
…Ian created D-Tail Design as a platform to not only share with the world his MoVE coffee tables, but also other furnishings that could be customised. AcoustiPic was born out of frustration with not being able to hear clearly in restaurants (due to sound bouncing off hard surfaces), whilst CanvasPic was in response to market demand for the same great looking custom pictures, but without the acoustic treatment (and thus a lower price point).
Ian has undertaken several design courses at the prestigious UAL Central St. Martins university in London, studied Art and Design at college in Royal Leamington Spa, and is currently studying for an Interior Design diploma at the British Academy of Interior Design. He also holds a degree with honours in Computer Science. He is a keen sportsman, having played football at county and semi-professional levels, is a qualified FA coach, and loves to cycle both on the road and at the velodrome.
